I want to echo the recent articles in Maine's major newspapers that responded to Rep. Golden's comments should Trump be elected. I think Rep. Golden needs to re-think his cavalier comments. As a lifelong Democrat, I know he is trying to walk a middle road between both Republican and Democrat constituents, but we didn't elect a radical Independent, we elected a Democrat. To that end, it would be good to have town halls between now and November so that you know where your constituents stand on the issues and we know where you stand too. Ron
Rep. Golden, I agree with many of the things you are saying in “The Power of Place-Based Politics.” I think it’s good to work with members of the other party on issues that will help Maine in particular and America in general. However, I don’t like the tone of your TV campaign ads, where you highlight how many times you’ve voted against Democratic legislation. You say in your ad you want to push for more oil and gas production and that you are not in favor of legislation promoting EV’s. Do you believe in global warming caused by the use of fossil fuels? Global warming is hurting Maine’s fishing industry, it’s hurting all of the businesses like snowmobiling that depend on cold weather and snow in the winter. One more thing. I also am disappointed that you are not holding town halls to hear what your constituents have to say.
While you are home on such an extended recess, it would be wonderful for you to hold town halls throughout the state. You promised us when we worked to elect you that you would do so, but you have not followed through. Why? That failure has alienated an important part of your constituency.
Good Morning, Congressman! I have always believed that if we had 535 people of good will, who sincerely represent the needs of their constituents, our country would be in fine shape.
I believe you are exactly the type of representative that I envisioned.
But…I believe our parties have become so dominated by special interests as to make them unresponsive to the public.
Maine has a tradition of supporting Independent candidates and I hope you will consider following that path in the future.
Jared, the recent article in the BDN citing your voting with Rs on a border bill that more symbolic than meaningful. It's raised the ire of several Ds who do not appreciate your independence and ignore the larger number of times you vote with the Ds. In this newsletter you say why. I'm not sure how this unenrolled independent (who votes D) got on your mailing list but others need to be as well. Time for another commentary by you outlining the contents of this newsletter for those falling by the wayside.
We've lived in 10 different states and I've been represented by over 2 dozen different Congressmen, from California to Maine, from Nebraska to Florida. We've also live in Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Connecticut and Illinois. We've been represented by men of integrity like Tom Osborne and Tom Harkin and men that did very little like Ron DeSantis and John Rutherford.
I would give Jared Golden an "A" for effort in a right leaning district. He has worked across the aisle with Republicans whose goal seems to be to do as little as possible for their constituents and do everything they can to make Democrats look bad.
This Congress has been an absolute mess. They have passed less legislation than any Congress in history. They passed only one budget and that was six months late. They chose to ignore our allies in Ukraine and Israel while thousands of soldiers and civilians were killed.
Congressman Golden spent literally weeks studying the Federal budget and may very well know more about it than any other Congressman. I thank him for that. His staff is very helpful when it seems impossible to get past a bureaucratic hurdle.
But, I feel like the Congressman needs to connect with the constituents by having town halls as he said he would. When Ron DeSantis was a freshman Congressman he held dozens of town halls. I attended a few and they were very informative. I also attended Mike Michaud's town halls which were often conducted with other elected officials.
The Congressman has one of the larger districts in the country. It is not easy to travel around the district but I know the Congressman has been to Hancock County many times to meet with relatively small groups of constituents.
One Saturday morning in Nebraska I attended a town hall with Congressman Beureter in a library in Lincoln, NE. There were maybe 25 people in attendance. He was there for maybe an hour before he went off to the next town hall meeting.
My point is that it doesn't matter how many people turn out, what matters is that you made an effort to meet with your constituents to hear the needs of the local people.
Thanks so much for the work you do and the level-headed way you approach your job. If we had more congressmen like you, I do believe we'd be a less divided country right now. It's pretty well known that numerous Republicans, for partisan purposes, voted agains the bills you cited but returned to their districts and took credit for the good that came to their constituents from these bills.
Such amazing deceit! Keep up the good work. Maybe, someday, you will not have to work with a bunch of loonies!
Thank you so very much for this newsletter. Please continue Stewarding so well, to help us all, Mainers of every color.
And somehow I do not think that Black people will want to hear they will not have to vote again!

Thank you! The work you do on behalf of Maine is appreciated.

Well written. Thank you….
What is not needed in Congress is a Race Car Driver with no experience in what DC is all about.
